Sunday Brunch at Scarpetta Beverly Hills

Aren’t you always looking for a place to brunch on Sunday? There is a new one at Montage Beverly Hills at its restaurant Scarpetta. Chef Scott Conant, a lady killer, is not always there, but you may still enjoy his kitchen while he is busy touring his other Scarpetta restaurants or shooting his TV show. And I really mean his kitchen, as the savory buffet is actually displayed in the kitchen, a unique feature of which Montage owner Alan Fuerstman takes pride. Not too many restaurants can claim to have such a beautiful kitchen. We all wish we could have one like that.
Come hungry as the options are numerous. You may start with oysters, shrimp, crab, Conant’s yellowtail tuna sushi, and more raw fish. Ask for the omelet of your dreams. Continue with the pasta and salads of your choice. Want grilled fish or meat? Not a problem. There are also waffles & pancakes from the griddle, croissants and pains au chocolat. Kids have their own little area with burger sliders, fried chicken, French fries and more ($35 + tax and service for children under 12, no beverage included).
Once you have your plate (and you can go back as many times as you want), I recommend that you sit outside on the terrace overlooking the manicured park. Don’t end your meal just yet, as there are tasty offerings from The Cheese Store of Beverly Hills — the display is in the dining room. And don’t think there is no dessert because you did not see them at a first glance. They are hidden in the bar; it could be because they are so good but not good for you, and Montage Beverly Hills executive pastry chef Richard Ruskell wants to preserve your health. Watch my exclusive video interview with the talented artist.
The brunch is served every Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It is priced at $68 + tax and service, no beverage included ($88 on holidays). That is certainly not cheap, but after all, you’re dining in the heart of Beverly Hills at a 5-key hotel that features impeccable service.
UPDATE 11/16/11: Executive pastry chef Richard Ruskell at Montage Beverly Hills offers pastries to order. His seasonal cupcake collection is packaged in a holiday-themed box ($60 for 14 cupcakes). Other treats include cakes, pies, macarons and morning or tea pastries. Orders should be placed at least two days in advance. To place an order, please call 310-860-5800. Montage Beverly Hills, 225 N. Canon Dr., Beverly Hills, CA 90210, 310-860-7800, 888-860-0788.
