THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED afterglo Restaurant Review:
Afterglo gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “feed your ego.” The restaurant's guiding concept is beautritional cuisine, fare that's filled with ingredients (chia seed, goji berries and gotu kola, to name a few of the more obscure ones) that make your eyes shine, skin glow and hair grow. So, of course, the place is overrun by clients---models, celebrities and the like---who don't need such enhancement, and who are looking for the atmosphere of proprietor Tim Hogle's sister restaurant-nightclub, Tantra. But there's plenty here for the health-minded and planet-conscious diner who's also serious about good food. The kitchen takes what is essentially an all-organic, sustainable, seasonal and free-range pantry and creates some truly outstanding dishes such as parsnip-miso soup with sautéed leeks and wild mushrooms; bison ceviche with jungle peanuts and crispy shallots; vegetable and pignoli ricotta tartlette with sage pesto; and pan-roasted breast of wild pheasant with raw chocolate mole. In truth we could do without the hooey---does anyone really want to eat a wild sockeye salmon cake called the beauty pill?---but if you can manage to suspend your disbelief for an evening, you can believe in the promise of afterglo.
