Alegrias Restaurant Review:
The colorful, hand-painted ceramics, terra cotta flower boxes and bright flamenco shawls aptly reflect the warm and welcoming atmosphere of this stand-out tapas stand-by. Start out simple with a plate of escalivada, grilled eggplant, peppers and onions sprinkled with extra-virgin Spanish olive oil, or the cloud-like tortilla à la espanola. Warm tapas like the conejo à la cazuela, stewed rabbit with vegetables and wine, makes for a nice light entrée. The heartier zarzuela de mariscos with loads of shellfish in tomato, garlic, saffron and wine sauce or the New York steak with blue-cheese sauce will keep you satisfied long after the sherry buzz has worn off. The rice-and-milk pudding is marvelous.
