Ali Baba Terrace Restaurant Review:
This white-tablecloth restaurant near the United Nations serves most of the classics of Turkish cuisine. But start with the less-common gavurdagi salad made with tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, parsley and walnuts in a pomegranate sauce. Then move on to an array of hot and cold mezes including pan-fried calf’s liver, smoked eggplant salad and icli kofte (bulgur balls stuffed with ground lamb and pine nuts). Entrées range from several Turkish grilled mixed meats, many with beef or lamb combined with garlic, hot peppers and tomatoes, to a decent steak topped with a spicy vegetable sauce and chicken cubes drenched in a walnut sauce. The sweet portion of the meal brings a moist baklava that’s one of the best renditions this side of the Bosporus.
