THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Alma Restaurant Review:
After a move from downtown St. Petersburg (where it was Café Alma), this popular restaurant (now simply Alma) strives to maintain a reputation for offering a creative menu. Tapas are emphasized frequently in the evenings, although a more traditional menu also is available. Among the former, choices can range from crispy shrimp Alma (freshly fried sweet shrimp tossed in Thai aïoli and served over Asian slaw) to crab-stuffed mushrooms with artichokes, spinach and Asiago. Tapas are half-priced on some weeknights, as are bottles of wine, so be sure to ask. Innovation extends beyond the small plates; consider the signature entrée of lightly bronzed grouper covered with wilted spinach, Gorgonzola, apple wood bacon and a roasted red pepper sauce, served over Moroccan couscous. Desserts are house-made and span from cheesecakes to crème brûlée.
