THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Almoncello Restaurant Review:
Locals and weekenders crowd the vibrant bar at this northern Italian trattoria from chef Jason Weiner and partner Eric Lemonides (Almond), eager for the Saturday late-night karaoke hour. Wine bottles stand at attention along the walls and fresh seasonal produce cascades down the front farm table. Start with thick slices of scallop carpaccio matched with refreshing grapefruit granita and dotted with crispy leeks, or a simple and satisfying basket of salt cod croquettes. The pasta is memorable---puffy spinach gnocchi or silky pappardelle bolognese---but the kitchen really shines with a grilled branzino and porchetta, a slow-braised pork shoulder served Northern-style with red cabbage and spätzle. No need to be hungry to order the zeppole, sugary fritters sprinkled with limoncello; they just roll down on their own.
