Amina Thai Restaurant Restaurant Review:
One of the few and perhaps the only halal restaurant in the metro area, this Thai establishment offers almost all of the standard Thai dishes. That unique feature has made it something of a draw. The personality of the owner, none other than Amina herself, accounts for much of the restaurant's appeal as well; she chats with customers and recommends favorites. But the menu lacks the real verve and kick of an authentic Thai meal, and that's not because the pork is absent. The seasoning hand in the kitchen is too timid. Standbys include tod mun, the famous fish cakes that depend on threads of lime leaf and ample portions of red curry paste for their distinctive flavor. An entrée of pad see-iew, the broad rice noodles stirred with eggs and Chinese broccoli, is a passable rendition.
