THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Anejo Restaurant Review:
Lasco Enterprises (Max’s Wine Dive and The Tasting Room fame) is behind this ambitious Tex-Mex restaurant in Uptown Park that seeks to elevate Texas’ national cuisine to a fine dining level. Añejo, which refers to the name of the aged tequila, offers 100 premium tequilas and mezcals, as well as wines. The black and white dining room has chandeliers and red leather banquettes and the food matches the setting: think queso fondue made from three Mexican cheeses and served with little bowls of onions, peppers and salsa that you mix to your own liking, and French pressed tortilla soup. There’s a wild boar burrito; poached lobster tail topped with tequila-honey butter; and pecan-crusted rack of lamb with jalapeño jelly. Also present are the usual suspects like fajitas, enchiladas and mixed grill platters, but even those are kicked up a notch with special ingredients and house-made sauces. Drop by the patio on Saturdays for a frozen margarita made with prime tequila and real cane sugar and Añejo’s version of eggs Benedict created with fried carnitas (pork) and chipotle hollandaise.
