Asian Box Restaurant Review:
Grace Nguyen, previously of San Francisco's Slanted Door, goes her own way with this fast-casual eatery based on Asian street food. Start your “box” with a choice of one of two rices, noodles or a salad. Next add a protein such as lemongrass pork or six-spice chicken. Add-ons include vegetables that come steamed or wok-tossed, and a list of flavorful toppers ranging from fresh jalapeño to crispy shallots to a lime squeeze --- we recommend the works. Choose from six house-made sauces --- tamarind vinaigrette is a highlight. Choices beyond the box are limited to two sides (fresh spring rolls or standout jerky) and house-made or bottled drinks. Vietnamese iced coffee, made with Cafe Du Monde coffee from New Orleans, can make for a sweet finish to the meal (or walk down the shopping center to Kara's for a cupcake). For an ultra-quick lunch, use the exterior walk-up window for a pre-configured order of fried rice, or order on-line to have your box ready on arrival. Other locations.
