Asti Ristorante Restaurant Review:
Right in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter’s hottest block, Asti is a lively Italian restaurant with great people-watching on the patio. Start with crab cakes in salsa rosa or the pasta e fagioli, traditional white bean soup. Handmade ravioli is stuffed with Maine lobster and ricotta and served in lobster sauce, while simple but solid is the spaghetti and Italian meatballs with marinara sauce. Cavatelle Michelangelo is another treat of semolina and ricotta dumplings sautéed with sun-dried tomatoes and chicken in a light brandy marinara sauce with a touch of cream. Try the pizza or panini as well, available only at lunch. The exposed red brick and white tablecloths add a little panache to the scene. Fettuccine Alfredo and mac ‘n’ cheese round out the kids’ menu.
