Basho Japanese Brasserie Restaurant Review:
This large, modernist sushi hangout is popular with trendsetting college students and Red Sox fans, who come for a unique treat before heading to a neighboring game at Fenway Park. Start off with a lychee martini paired with a sampling of salted edamame tossed with tart lime juice before moving on to the spicy tuna roll. Skip the small Kobe beef skewers as a better find is the baby octopus in a spicy orange ponzu sauce. Dishes are small and pricey, but the seafood is fresh and the rolls are tasty. Don’t miss the specialty Basho Roll with lightly fried snow crab and vegetables with a spicy jalapeño aïoli uniquely wrapped in shaved cucumber. Coinciding with Red Sox season, the Green Monster roll features soft-shell crab with spicy mayo wrapped with escolar and seasoned with cilantro pesto.
