Basil's Restaurant & Tapas Restaurant Review:
Small dining rooms are tucked into what once were living rooms and bedrooms in this small, former residence turned restaurant. We find the most appealing seating on the front deck, which has both a sheltered and an exposed section. Comfortable, casual dining on hummus (the real deal), baba ghanouj, lamb and similar Middle Eastern comfort fare draws loyal fans. But the menu offers a range of dishes, going all the way from Spanish paella to Greek shrimp with feta (served, curiously, over jasmine rice). Start with any of several small plates, or mezze, such as tender, spice-rubbed lamb riblets. The pork tenderloin with fresh vegetables is not Middle Eastern, but it's a tasty and properly cooked (pink) take on the meat. For dessert, check out the chocolate selections. The wine list offers a wide range of choices, including a good Pinot Grigio (Pighin) and good reds.
