Since 1987, this family-owned restaurant in a south San Jose strip mall has served up better-than-average, home-cooked classics in a charming, approachable interior. Crowd-pleasers include fluffy chile rellenos and ground beef tacos in crispy, freshly fried shells accompanied by Spanish rice and refried beans. The large menu also includes soups, tortas and a separate list for “little amigos.” (On Wednesdays, kids eat for free.) On warm days, enjoy lunch or dinner on the protected, plant-covered patio. Sunday brunch includes an impressive buffet dished out to the festive tunes of a mariachi band. Happy hour specials add to the fun.
