Hunter's Head Tavern Restaurant Review:
Hunter's Head Tavern offers a rustic setting with its all-wood interior that dates back to the original log cabin built in the 1700s. Outdoor dining is available in a covered tent in colder weather, and on the pretty terrace otherwise. If you are seeking grass-fed and locally raised beef --- meat comes from the famed Upperville Ayrshire Farm --- plan to take a plunge into the “green”-friendly menu. Also expect old-time American fare, from chicken potpie and Welsh rarebit to a handful of British faves, including bangers and mash and bubble and squeak. You’ll even find the old classic, veal scallopini Florentine. But you could be content with the Ayrshire burger, tender and flavorful, sided by fresh, hot fries. Save room for dessert, which ranges from the seasonal paw-paw ice cream to the lusty chocolate pudding and pumpkin cheesecake with caramel sauce. Prices are moderate, allowing families to bring the whole gang without breaking the budget. If you want beer or wine with your meal, there are numerous choices.
