About the restaurant: Master sushi chef Katsuya Uechi and über-designer Philippe Starck continue their seductive collaboration of cuisine and design at Katsuya Downtown. The 7,500-square-foot space at L.A. Live includes lounge-like indoor seating and a popular outdoor dining patio.
Food & Drinks: In addition to platters of sushi and sashimi --- consumed either at tables or at the rectangular sushi bar --- you’ll find the artistically presented dishes that have made Uechi’s modern Japanese fare a favorite of local hipsters. Specialties include spicy tuna atop crispy rice, salmon sashimi topped with caviar, and spicy albacore with crispy onions. Among larger dishes are lobster dynamite, Wagyu rib-eye with truffle butter, and miso-marinated black cod. Excellent cocktails include the sweet-hot Burning Mandarin or white grapefruit Cosmo. There’s also a fine selection of sakés and a more-than-respectable wine list. For dessert, you’ll find both mochi ice cream and Western-style cakes and pastries.
