LaSalette Restaurant Review:

Azorian chef Manny Azevedo has situated his well-regarded Portuguese restaurant in the heart of Sonoma Square. Charmingly decorated with hand-painted tiles in warm, apricot colors and a large wood-fired stove, this unassuming chef is the talk of wine country with his incorporation of African, Brazilian and other exotic flavors. The initial offering of a classic Portuguese roll, crusty and warm fresh from the oven, is sweet with corn. Seafood is a specialty of the restaurant, from the salt cod cakes with cilantro mayonnaise to fresh sardines, both served as appetizers. Entrées include a classic Brazilian feijoada stew of smoked sausage and black beans or Azevedo's seafood version with clams, mussels and giant prawns. If you like it spicier, consider the Mozambique prawns, pan-roasted in piri-piri, with coconut rice and tomato-peanut sauce. Cheese is a must-have course with creamy Portuguese offerings including a house-made queijo fresco. An extensive wine list of both California and Portuguese selections with an incomparable port wine list cannot fail to impress the most discerning wine lover.
