Martin's Bar-B-Que Joint Restaurant Review:
Nashville’s only outpost of Martin's Bar-B-Que Joint maintains the Nolensville original’s look --- from the wood walls and fluorescent lighting to the Daisy Duke décor. But aesthetics don't matter much when it comes to good 'cue anyway, and this place has some of the best in middle Tennessee. Owner Pat Martin learned from whole-hog old-timers in West Tennessee and carried the craft east. Nearby students from Belmont University and neighbors from the 12th South area line up to order pulled pork and slaw piled over corn cakes (Redneck Taco). Regulars often find their own favorites from among the ribs (baby-backs or spare) and smoked wings with, perhaps, Alabama white sauce, a burger with Comeback sauce or smoked bologna sandwich. Guest may sit at the bar by the pit and watch the whole-hog action or just take in the smoky perfume. Although Martin's offers a free Moon Pie, go ahead and spring for the homemade coconut cake (Saturdays only) or the fudge and pecan pies instead. And to drink, choose from a selection of local beers on tap such as Yazoo and Jackalope as well as such classics in cans as PBR.
