Mason Street Grill Restaurant Review:
Located downtown in the historic Pfister hotel, the Mason Street Grill doesn’t have a catchy name but it does offer high-quality steaks as well as rebooted side dishes and desserts. The vibe is classic steakhouse with dark woodwork, leather furniture, hardwood floors, a fireplace, comfortable booths and a long dining counter. A pianist performs nightly on a grand piano; meanwhile, the waitstaff is clad is classy white coats, shirts and ties and manages to be very attentive without being pesky. The menu is full of appealing choices, and generally they’re well-wrought. We like to start with the signature chopped salad (with mustard-horseradish dressing, bacon, egg and avocado). Fine seafood, which is sourced from all over, includes a Maryland crab cake sandwich (based on a 1950s recipe), Wisconsin trout sautéed in lemon butter, and Maine lobster prepared as a lobster roll. Steaks can be topped with indulgent upgrades --- Maytag blue cheese, wild mushrooms or king crab.
