Nobu Tokyo Restaurant Review:
Tokyo's trendiest restaurant is neither as difficult to book nor as expensive as its counterparts in New York or London. So if you've wanted to try Nobu and see what the hype is all about, this is the city to do so in. The food is Japanese pub fare with a classy, creative twist; but it's done so well that both the locals and visitors are satisfied. Start with a watercress salad with sesame dressing that is simple but very sharp and refreshing. Next, seared scallop salad is garlicky and salty, while Japanese beef dumplings have chunky beef that oozes juices with the first bite. The sushi, too, is certainly a notch above most sushi joints even in these parts. If you are visiting Nobu for the first time, go for the standard favorites like the soft-shell crab roll and the black cod with miso sauce --- reportedly co-owner Robert De Niro's favorite. Meanwhile, the atmosphere is dark, hip and very much Japanese modern. We find it too noisy and crowded for our taste, and somewhat trying too hard to be cool.
