Pinewood Social Restaurant Review:
Walk through the doors at Pinewood Social and a host standing behind a long hotel-style counter will help you choose your entertainment: Bowl on vintage lanes with lane-side service or sing karaoke. But during early morning hours --- starting at 7 a.m. on weekdays --- it's popular for business meetings and studying. This coffee shop, restaurant, bar and gathering place inside Nashville's old trolley barns offers a bit, and a bite, to suit every time of day. At breakfast, for example, "Egg in a Jar" turns out to be an edible terrarium of ham, egg, mornay sauce and truffle. Lunch offers inventive salads and sandwiches (lobster roll to beef tongue Reuben). Dinner brings comforting meatloaf and fried chicken, while dessert follows the comfort theme with house-made pies. At the heart of the room by restaurateurs Max Goldberg and Benjamin Goldberg (The Patterson House, The Catbird Seat, Merchants and more), a square bar helmed by Matt Tocco, formerly of The Patterson House and Rolf & Daughters, offers a well-edited selection of wines including a handful by the glass. A spirits list has the largest selection in the bourbon category. But the craft cocktails draw the most attention with bartenders shaving ice for such drinks as "The Tie that Binds," a gathering of gin, vermouth, lemon, raspberry, vanilla and egg white.
