Ray's Cafe & Tea House Restaurant Review:
For something different, this coffee shop on the edge of Chinatown not only makes a science of brewing at least 20 different types of coffee (also sold by the pound and half-pound), but dishes up decent Chinese food in the bargain. The unique-to-Philly siphon coffeemakers simmering over Bunsen burners give the décor a 1950s horror flick feel, and like any mad scientist's waiting room, there are magazines strewn about to skim while waiting for your selections. We suggest the dumplings, duck pot stickers, curried chicken, pork and napa cabbage, and vegetable-taro. This is Taiwanese cuisine, as scrupulously clean as the place itself, and you can enjoy noodle soups, Taiwan fried rice, or tofu with ground pork. For dessert, Ray's special house coffee is made into aspic and served with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream --- it will delight your inner, Jell-O-loving child.
