Russ & Daughters Cafe Restaurant Review:
This popular Lower East Side spot is the restaurant version of the legendary Eastern European/Jewish deli on Houston Street, where for decades, New Yorkers have been coming to nosh on bagels, caviar, herrings, and various smoked fish. And while these food items can be consumed at the restaurant, it also boasts dishes you can’t get at the deli: potato-stuffed knishes, for example, which can be addictive. There are pricey platters of smoked fish, even more expensive caviar, and a handful of notable egg selections (the Lower Sunny Side with sunny side up eggs, smoked salmon and potato latkes is a first-timer’s must). Finish things off with halvah ice cream or indulge in a breakfast martini (containing egg whites). The wine list is short and mid-priced with most options available by the glass.
