Shun Lee Palace Restaurant Review:
Shun Lee Palace has been a best bet for Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine in Midtown for three decades. In the spacious dining room, the tables are set European-style and the maître d' wears a tux. Start with grilled scallops, barbecued spare ribs, crispy shrimp balls and dumplings. Next, order won tons floating in a rich duck broth. You can get all the usual pork, chicken and noodle standbys as well as such unusual dishes as Grand Marnier prawns; “Ants Climb on Tree,” minced beef stir-fried with cellophane noodles in a spicy garlic sauce garnished with greens; or sweetbreads with black mushrooms in a peppery Szechuan sauce. Peking duck is worth ordering for the high-speed, knife-flashing presentation alone. At lunch on weekdays, there’s a good prix-fixe menu.
