Trolley Stop Market Restaurant Review:
Farmers-turned-restaurateurs Jill and Keith Forrester founded Trolley Stop Market on the idea that people should be eating foods sourced from as close to home as possible. Many of their offerings are made from local meats and produce grown either on their nearby Arkansas farm or on others in the area. The dining room is massive, and tables range from small four-tops to those picnic-style for larger groups. Jill’s hand-lettered signs and colorful, retro vinyl tablecloths lend the space a whimsical feel. As for the food, pizzas with tender crusts are the star of the show. But don’t miss the plate lunches and dinners, which offer a meat (such as Claybrook Farms or Nine Oaks Farm meatloaf or breaded pork loin) and two vegetable sides that on any given day could range from turnip greens or sweet potato casserole to purple hull peas and tomato salad. There’s a section of the menu dedicated to vegan and vegetarian items, and Trolley Stop even offers a vegan cheese pizza. Desserts feature such down-home treats as lemon icebox pie and peach cobbler. Beer is the quaff of choice, with some Tennessee craft brews available. Bring your own wine if you wish for a small corkage fee. The restaurant doubles as a farmers market, where local produce and Memphis-made arts and crafts are the draws.
