True Food Kitchen Restaurant Review:

About the restaurant & décor: Shoppers have a million reasons to visit Oakbrook Center, and food is one of them. True Food Kitchen creates its own following of stumble-upon-ers and those who already know and frequent the River North location. Bright and airy with tons of windows, the space marries industrial with natural elements: green booths, subway tile, and a long bar facing the kitchen.

Likes: Exemplary service and a trove of healthy options.
Dislikes: The side kale salad was a bit too salty.

Food & Drinks: Rooted in the anti-inflammatory food pyramid trumpeted by founder Dr. Andrew Weil, the restaurant emphasizes wholesome ingredients that are nutrient dense and full of flavor. Start with a tastes-like-Thanksgiving crispy butternut squash pizza, which sports a cracker-like crust, caramelized onion, roasted garlic, kale, vegan almond ricotta, dried cranberry and sage. Dainty edamame dumplings sit in a shallow white-truffle oil broth, a light appetizer to share. Entrée-size salads brim with farm-fresh ingredients. And there's a burger for vegetarians, too – this one made with beets. Finish with a slice of velvety squash pie paired with coconut whipped cream. A generous wine list represents California, Argentina, France, Italy and Spain.
