Barbrix Restaurant Review:
This lively neighborhood wine bar is abuzz with Silver Lake locals who, stopping in for a glass of Viognier or Malbec, sigh in relief just to have a chic little spot like this finally blossom in their ’hood. Owners Claudio Blotta and his wife Adria Tennor have fixed up this former 1940s bungalow schoolhouse to create a sleek organic space of shiny wood and big windows. It’s got an airy flow that seamlessly blends the central square bar, a charming front patio with vintage glass-and-wrought iron bistro tables, and a noisy rear space adjoining a bustling open kitchen. The global wine list is smart and moderately priced, offering explorers plenty of territory. The menu’s Mediterranean-style small plates proffer savory bites: fried calamari with chili aïoli; pan con tomate (fresh tomato on toasted country bread); and vegetable sides. Large plates include Manila clams with linguine, flat-iron steak with fries, and a highly respectable burger. Or, just indulge in some compelling artisan cheeses and meats. For dessert, consider a Nutella soufflé cake or affogato.
