Basil Thai Restaurant Restaurant Review:
Shaping Basil Thai's urban chic décor, glass and mirror accents set off sleek wood. But it's the straight-up, well-prepared Thai food that secures the restaurant's loyal following. Starters, several of which are marked "gluten free," include a meat-free egg roll and larb (choose chicken or beef) with generous amounts of mint, scallions and chili. House specialties range from pad thai to green curry served with bell peppers, bamboo shoots, eggplant, green peas and basil. Executive chef Suntorn Cherdchoongarm, a native of Thailand, has traveled and cooked his way around the globe; his signature dish is crispy red curry duck. Traditional pad see ew is among noodle and rice items. For dessert, opt for the refreshing fried green tea ice cream. The bar is a welcoming place for post-work cocktails, but wines by the glass are equally winning. Bottles of wine are half price on Sunday evenings. Service is efficient and friendly.
