Bastille Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant & décor: One of Alexandria’s most beloved restaurants relocated away from the waterfront and opened in the middle of Old Town. Its setting is just as classy with a sleek, modern décor, a wood-framed bar near the entrance and a garden-like outdoor patio.
Likes: Happy service.
Dislikes: Crowded seating.
Food & Drinks: The menu still features French-inspired dishes by chefs-owners Christophe Poteaux and Michelle Poteaux, though at lunchtime, patrons can also pick up salads, sandwiches (even a falafel burger) and entrées. But it takes a dinnertime visit to pour over all the offerings and consider some fancier selections or opt for one of the two prix-fixe menus. Splurge on very garlicky escargots, beignets and local raw oysters as starters. Mains reflect the French influences in the crispy chicken thighs with chorizo and peppers, the pan-roasted duck breast, and the grilled merguez sausage and lamb chops. Desserts include the bar au citron (lemon filling baked into a flaky crust), the gâteau au fromage Maghreb and a New York-style cheesecake with apricot sorbet and Valrhona white chocolate cream. Note that choices change without notice, so your meal may be somewhat different. Check out the café and bar menus for other items. Ask about the cocktails and peruse the extensive wine list.
