THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Bistro By The Beach Restaurant Review:
You’ll smell the salt air and hear the sound of waves pounding the beach just 100 steps away before you’ve even opened the restaurant’s door. Located on the ground floor of an historic inn, this tiny place is all nooks and crannies that create an agreeable sense of intimacy. The ambitious menu, comprised largely of sustainable seafood, is tempting, but not all elements live up to their descriptions, although count on freshness, striking presentation and unique preparations of tried-and-true dishes. A Maryland jumbo lump crab cake arrives golden brown and fashioned from big chunks of crab meat, amplified with a Southwestern twist: guacamole and roasted corn salsa atop micro greens. The nicely cooked and moist grilled swordfish entrée shares the plate with a cucumber/avocado/lump crab salad dressed with well-balanced blood orange vinaigrette. Twin lobster tails, the most expensive item on the menu, disappoint. Overcooked and dry, even an accompanying scampi sauce cannot mediate the parched texture. Key lime tart, from a limited dessert array, is a nice ending to the meal. The friendly service staff needs more training.
