Bomba Tacos & Rum Restaurant Review:
Rocky River’s Bomba is from the owners of Paladar Latin Kitchen. A large wraparound bar and plenty of TVs anchor this breezy taco and rum joint. To the left is a Caribbean-themed dining room while opposite the bar is a four-season patio as well as plenty of communal seating. The menu, built for sharing, snacking and experimenting, follows the ambience. Start with the build-your-own guacamole that can be customized with everything from pickled jalapeños and candied pumpkin seeds to shrimp and bacon. Platters of queso fundido (spend the extra $2 and get it with chorizo), bacon-wrapped jalapeños and empanadas are filled with your choice of roasted chicken, chorizo and potato or grilled portobello. There are nearly 20 tacos, featuring a wide array of fillings. We suggest ordering at least three for a satisfying dinner --- try the slow-braised duck, braised beef and chipotle mushroom. A handful of tortas offer combinations like chorizo and fried egg, or smoked brisket with Swiss, pico and a chimichurri horseradish. Desserts include churros and two different types of flan. To wash down your taco, Bomba’s bar stocks 60 different styles of rum, making it one of the longest lists in town. The white, gold, dark, aged and spiced varieties can be enjoyed in mojitos, margaritas and rum flights.
