Walking into this restaurant is like taking a trip to early twentieth-century Paris, complete with antique mirrors, tin ceilings and a zinc-topped bar. That charming throwback ambience fills Bon Vie (which means good life in French), situated at Troy's upscale Somerset Collection retail complex. On the traditional Gallic menu, the bistro salad is a winner, with chopped greens, tomatoes and hard-boiled eggs drizzled with your choice of a creamy Parmesan or zippy honey-mustard dressing. Entrées are also memorable, from a grilled Niman Ranch pork chop with fennel to steamed New Zealand green-lipped mussels served atop a wonderful base of tomatoes and wine. Comfort foods such as beef stroganoff, chicken crêpes and coq au vin also star on the menu. A plus: The waitstaff actually asks before you order if anyone has a food allergy.
