Bongo's brings some real Latin sizzle to downtown.
THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Bongo's Latin Grill & Bar Restaurant Review:
Brought to us by the folks from Elvia's International, Bongo's brings some real Latin sizzle to downtown. The same salsa rhythms that have been drawing diners and dancers to the original Fondren outpost for many years now spice up the historic landmark Esperson Building. But this place is decidedly more hip, with dark jewel tones and curvy walls to add atmosphere, as well as privacy for some folks. The same adventure awaits diners who can sample such starters as shrimp and crab cheesecake with lemon pesto; Venezuelan tostones with cheese, beef or ceviche; and coconut shrimp with mango and papaya sauces. Entrées include Mexican paella with calamari, shrimp and sausage; Costeno mahi mahi with tropical sauce; and beef filet with Torres brandy-mushroom sauce. Thursday through Saturday, local Latin music favorites like Mango Punch and Mi Rumba lead the way with salsa and merengue beats.
