THIS RESTAURANT IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED Border Grill Downtown LA Restaurant Review:
Their Pan-Latin Ciudad enjoyed a long run, but chefs Mary Sue Milliken and Susan Feniger eventually converted its downtown space into Border Grill, replicating the menu that made them famous at the since-closed Santa Monica original. Walls are covered with primal folk art --- the hip hieroglyphics that are a Border Grill signature --- and a lively bar serves up an extensive selection of tequilas. In addition to the margaritas, they also offer South American favorites like the caipirinha and pisco sour, plus an eclectic wine list with many Spanish and Latin American offerings. Starters include green corn tamales, roasted lamb tacos and Argentine empanadas that are another pleasant leftover from Ciudad. BG's signature wild mushroom quesadilla is featured, as well as its Yucatán-style pork and grilled turkey with pepper sauce. For dessert, opt for the tres leches cake with prickly pear sauce or Mexican chocolate cream pie. The CANTINA offers daily happy hour drinks (mojitos, red sangría) and bites (Border tacos, tamales, quesadillas).
