Bourbon on Division Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: Minimalist Southern comes to mind inside this tri-level Division Street restaurant and bar, once home to a 4 a.m. bar. (The late-night license remains.) Bench seating, warm woods and a long bar offer plenty of places to dine and drink, and come summer, the patio opens for enjoying neighborhood foot traffic.
Likes: Laidback vibe and affordable menu.
Dislikes: More bar than restaurant.
Food & Drinks: Can Southern food be elevated and casual? Bourbon on Division aims for just that, with hearty mains such as beef and grits and chicken and dumplings alongside classics including a shrimp po’ boy and beef dip. An Alabama white sauce amps up a beer-battered chicken barbecue sandwich, while pimento grilled cheese on ciabatta is a twist on a Southern standard. A late-night kitchen keeps appetites fueled through 3 a.m. A nicely pruned menu of whiskey and bourbon cocktails --- try the balanced Sour Betty --- plays a starring role.
