Blue Plate Oysterette Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: Blue Plate Oysterette's longevity and the crowds always packing the place are proof that the owners continue to offer a quality dining experience. Tables are crammed into the narrow, casual and elegant restaurant, so it’s best to secure a reservation to dine here. The long counter facing the open kitchen is one of the best spots to enjoy a platter of oysters --- there are many varieties offered daily --- with a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc or hand-crafted beer. The sidewalk patio offers breezy views of the Pacific Ocean and the tourists wandering Ocean Avenue as well.
Food & Drinks: And while Blue Plate Oysterette is on the West Coast, the menu says otherwise, with buckets of steamers, lobster rolls on soft brioche buns, and a first-rate New England clam chowder, generously studded with bacon. The seafood tower is loaded with Maine lobster, oysters, prawns and crab legs. (There is also the option to build your own.) You'll also find mussels in red curry, oysters Rockefeller, fish tacos, and rich lobster mac 'n' cheese. Landlubber options include a burger. But the winning dish, which at one point was removed from the menu and had to be brought back by popular demand, is the grilled chicken made tasty with fresh herbs and citrus marinade. And you can’t leave without having one, or two (why not?), of Key lime pie --- one of the best we’ve ever tasted. Staff is friendly, prices are moderate, and the weather is usually a good bit better than Cape Cod.
