Brooklyn Cafe Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: American comfort fare with the occasional Southern touch; a friendly bar; a frou-frou-free interior with some for-sale artwork on the walls; an almost wraparound outdoor dining space: that’s Brooklyn Cafe. Lifelong friends and business partners, Jeff Trump and chef Mike Horosh don’t depend on the razzle dazzle display of odd flavors or architectural plating to attract patrons.
Food & Drinks: Grilled artichokes with rémoulade sauce for dipping make a good starter. The jumbo lump crab cake is pure crab, on a bed of whole-grain mustard sauce; we’d like the accompanying green beans a little more cooked, but can’t quarrel with the crab cake. For dessert, the classic Key lime pie, made in house, is among the best we’ve ever had. The value-priced wine list, many of its selections available at less than $50 a bottle, draws from a variety of sources --- American, South American, French, Italian and Spanish. The Laxas Albariño from northwestern Spain complements the aforementioned crab cake. Bring the kids; there are coloring books to keep them entertained. Reservations are a good idea even for weekday lunch.
