Bull & Bear Steakhouse Restaurant Review:
Located in the Waldorf Astoria Orlando hotel, Bull & Bear is exactly how you would imagine a classic steakhouse --- leather seats, dark wood and crisp white tablecloths. The menu changes seasonally and utilizes fresh, and often local, ingredients (locally made cheese, heirloom tomatoes, Florida corn and Gulf seafood were on the menu when we dined). Begin with the escargots and gnocchi, or the classic Caesar salad, which is artfully prepared tableside. Other favorite starters are creamy deviled eggs with a flourish of black truffle salt and seared Hudson Valley foie gras. Steak options range from classic cuts to more interesting choices, such as the bone-in filet and the gargantuan tomahawk rib-eye for two, priced at $150. (Enough to feed three diners, easily.) But don’t overlook the fish: Dover sole is occasionally on the menu, and the crisp pave of rockfish with roasted corn and lump crab is as good as any steak. Side dishes nearly steal the show, like the macaroni and cheese studded with bacon. The menu has a little bit of everything, and includes lamb, duck and chicken. The wine list holds a match to any dish, and servers are well versed in the wine selections. Dessert might seem like overkill, but the Waldorf beignets with Grand Marnier sauce is an ideal ending --- or ask for a warm cookie and a glass of milk. It’s not on the menu, just ask nicely.
