Butchertown Grocery Restaurant Review:
Many mourned the passing of The Blind Pig, the pioneering gastropub that formerly occupied this space. But the handsome brick building that once did indeed house a neighborhood grocery is a dining destination again. Chef/owner is Bobby Benjamin. Butchertown Grocery, where (mostly) locally sourced ingredients shine in plate after creative plate, is so popular that you need to make a reservation weeks in advance, and for good reason. Who would have thought that a shaved Brussels sprouts salad would be so compulsively edible? There’s not a trace of bitterness with the addition of tart sliced apples, dried cherries, hazelnuts and shaved pecorino cheese. Add a grilled trout filet at an upcharge and it’s a meal. We also recommended the lobster risotto, house-made gnocchi with mushrooms, and steak frites with black truffle béarnaise. Banana bread pudding is the go-to dessert. Add to the mix a food-friendly wine list, a dining room framed by exposed brick and set with wooden booths and marble-topped tables on mosaic tile floors, and professional service.
