THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Butera's Fine Foods Restaurant Review:
This counter café still serves up the same nostalgic deli foods that the family-owned restaurant has dished out for years. A huge sandwich menu boasts such longtime favorites as the Jawbreaker (hot pastrami piled high with Swiss cheese, coleslaw and Russian dressing on an onion roll) and the Faccialetta (the delis version of a muffaletta, with the salami, ham, provolone and olive salad wrapped in focaccia bread). Many regulars bypass the sandwiches altogether, however, opting instead for the assortment of high-quality cold noshes like the incomparable shell pasta, a creamy concoction of chicken, black olives and mayonnaise; pesto pasta, with basil or sun-dried tomatoes; and the Southwestern black bean salad. Buteras tuna, egg and pimiento cheese salads are better than homemade. The cream of mushroom soup is outstanding. A more charming ambiance was found at its other, now-closed, locations, but this large, airy version is made more inviting on moderate days when sidewalk seating becomes an added bonus.
