Cafe 222 Restaurant Review:
Café 222 is a colorful, inviting space with a menu full of dishes with playful names like “Wakey Wakey, Eggs + Bakey” and “Green Eggs and Spam.” We bring out-of-town guests and local friends here for the famous pumpkin waffles, tamales and eggs, homemade corned beef hash, or peanut-butter-and-banana-stuffed french toast. Lunchtime favorites include the lime-and-ginger-soaked chicken on toasted sourdough, the grilled turkey with pesto on focaccia, and the meatloaf sandwich. Owner Terryl Gavre's attitude is infectious; how can you not like a place that welcomes dogs and kids and has chandeliers made out of coffee cups and spoons? Lest you think Gavre is all fun and games, know that she is something of a celebrity on the local scene and has kept San Diegans engaged since the 1990s.
