Cafe Besalu Restaurant Review:
Look for the long lines waiting patiently outside this tiny Ballard shop. The family-owned neighborhood bakery and café offers an array of rich pastries, tender brioche and seasonal confections. A rotating selection of fruit Danishes pairs especially well with lattés. At lunch, quiches range from a classic Lorraine to a combination with spring-fresh asparagus, ham and manchego cheese. Tarts feature flavors such as lemon and pear. Among the distinctive baked goods, expect ginger biscuits and cardamom pretzels. To seriously indulge, order a handmade chocolate croissant, plus a second one to take home.
