Cafe Intermezzo Restaurant Review:
Café Intermezzo conveys the look and feel of a European coffee and pastry house in a nearly baroque atmosphere. At breakfast, sweet potato pancakes are the star of the show. For lunch or dinner, crêpes with savory fillings are the next best option, although the roasted vegetable soup met our approval on a cold day. Sandwiches are good bets. More complicated dishes just don't come off as well; chicken Florentine, with a hint of bitter dried herb, is a dish straight out of a 60s ladies magazine, with a too-heavy topping masking the overcooked chicken. Sweets (tortes, tarts, pies, crêpes and cheesecakes) are served with a generous dollop of authentic schlag (whipped cream). Tiramisu cheesecake is a tasty, fairly light affair, fine with a cup of the house double espresso. The wide-ranging beverages list offers weird martinis and other mixed drinks, lots of single-malt Scotch whiskeys, sherries and ports --- strangely, no Madeira --- and even saké, along with wines, including many by the glass. Also located at 4505 Ashford Dunwoody Rd. Park Place, Atlanta, 770-396-1344; 100 Avalon Blvd., Alpharetta, 404-355-0411; and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (Concourse B).
