THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED California Pizza Kitchen Restaurant Review:
An explosion of wood-burning (and even charcoal) brick-oven pizza joints throughout South Florida has---finally---made good pizza commonplace, and taken off the desperate edge that once made California Pizza Kitchen seem so special. Nevertheless, when our desire is for not just a thin-crusted pie but a designer pie, we still gravitate towards CPK, and have not once been disappointed. The list of two dozen pizzas includes all the standards, but there are also inventive versions like wild mushroom, mango tandoori chicken, and B.L.T.---complete with mayonnaise. Our favorites include the spinach and artichoke, a white pizza with three cheeses (mozzarella, Fontina and Parmesan) plus garlic; and the four seasons (Italian tomatoes, artichokes, fresh mushrooms, onion, salami and mozzarella plus fresh mozzarella). You can also design your own. If you can tear yourself away from pizzas, Pacific Rim pastas and salads, particularly Thai linguine with spicy peanut-ginger sauce or crisp Chinese chicken salad, are satisfying; salad portions are large, so keep in mind that you can get a half-order. Soups, appetizers, sandwiches made with good hearth-baked focaccia and filling desserts round out the menu.
