Canestaro's Restaurant Review:

The post-bubble years have been good to neighborhood restaurants, and Canestaro's is just that to the Fenway. It's a family-run place with the kind of menu that mixes Italian, American and Italian-American staples in a low-key but confident way. They're all ably prepared from the burgers, roll-ups and calzones to the pizzas, raviolis, scampis and Marsalas. Our favorite is the lasagna Bolognese layered with marinara, ricotta and mozzarella. If you aren’t in the mood for pasta, there is also a nice variety of charbroiled entrées, including steak tips, a mixed grill and baked haddock. Typical as Canestaro's sounds, there are few places like this eatery left that can function just as well as an eat-in or take-out standby. And it's even got a modicum of old-fashioned atmosphere, complete with a patio.
