THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Casa Azul Cantina Restaurant Review:
A sister establishment to the Frida Mexican Cuisine restaurants in Beverly Hills and Glendale, Casa Azul Cantina takes its name from artist Frida Kahlo's Blue House in Mexico City. This hip Mexican addition to the Westwood Village dining scene features a modern-style dining room with a hand-painted abstract mural, plus a bar and patio. Start off with ceviche or gambas al ajillo (shrimp prepared with olive oil, garlic, guajillo chile and lime). Interesting house specialties range from a mole tasting of green, poblano, black and red pipian mole with chicken to charbroiled skirt steak served with handmade corn tortillas and nopalito salad made from prickly pear cactus. Expect chef/owner Vicente Del Rio to cycle new dishes on the menu as well. Desserts include churros stuffed with cream, tres leches cake and flan that's whisked with cream for greater consistency. The signature Casa Azul Margarita is killer, and there's also a wide selection of tequilas. Overall, Casa Azul Cantina is a fun, friendly spot for a night out.
