THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Cepages Deli & Wine Lounge Restaurant Review:
Inside Rancho Cellars, in the north corner, there is a little deli and lounge called Cépages. The casual eatery helmed by Paris-trained, Le Cordon Bleu alum Janet Melac has a delightful menu which includes rotating soups and about a dozen gourmet sandwiches and salads, plus daily “additions” (aka specials). House-made duck prosciutto, fig, arugula and paper-thin curls of Parmigiano-Reggiano are laid between soft baguette slices; a “hot smoked” salmon sandwich comes with a tangy chive and caper tartar sauce. The cauliflower soup is spiked with a dusting of garam masala, and a bountiful salad of baby spinach leaves and pear slices is tossed with a creamy Roquefort dressing. The additions may vary between hearty beef short ribs braised with glazed carrots, pearl onions and niçoise olives or salmon paillard, flash-cooked and finished off with a drizzle of tarragon-heavy fines herbes sauce. Cépages’s convenient location inside a wine boutique makes it privy to a dozen domestic and imported wines by the glass. And for a special indulgence, go home with an order of Melac’s famous foie gras torchon.
