Minimally decorated with white tablecloths, this bistro serves lusty French country food. The menu usually offers two or three prix-fixe menus and a bargain-priced early-bird special. Splendid appetizers like sautéed sweetbreads or a silken lobster bisque pave the way for such entrées as crispy salmon on lentils or pork loin steak in a persillade crust. Desserts at Chapeau! are similarly fabulous, especially the berry napoleon. The wine list (more than 300 selections) is outstanding for such a small place.
