Charcoal Garden Bar + Grill Restaurant Review:
About the restaurant: The Josper grill/oven hybrid, hailing from Spain, is the star of the kitchen at alfresco Charcoal Garden Bar + Grill in the culinary incubator, The Wynwood Yard. Ken Lyon (Fratelli Lyon) is behind the restaurant.
Food & Drinks: The emphasis is on Florida-raised meats and proteins, as well as local produce whenever possible. Choose from generous charcuterie and cheese boards, consisting of house-made pâtés, terrines and liver mousse, which change depending on the animal at hand. Florida smoked fish spread is worth ordering, as is the 36-hour salmon gravlax. In fact, everything prepared here has been given the utmost care and attention, from the wild mushrooms brimming with shallots, garlic, olive oil and thyme-sage to slow-simmered then grilled octopus in green olive oil and basted in lemon. Whole branzino is butterflied and skillfully grilled. Of course, you'd be remiss to not partake of any meats: Ocala-raised heritage chicken; Florida pork and lamb; a house-made sausage platter. A handful of vegetables comes from the on-site edible garden maintained by Little River Cooperative. Expect plenty of wine and cocktails for sipping.
