Cherry Blossom Restaurant Review:
A wide selection of Japanese fare is offered in this serene spot marked by a Japanese garden at the entrance. Seating is available in tatami rooms, at the marble sushi bar or at Western-style tables. Shigeru Yamada and his partners have years of experience, and it shows in this handsome honey-and-plum-colored space with minimalist lines. Four menus are presented at dinner: a list of nightly specials; yakitori (an array of meat, chicken and vegetables threaded on skewers and cooked on a special grill); a selection of sushi and sashimi; and the printed bill of fare listing the many remaining dishes. We like the Cherry Blossom Boat: lobster tail, beef and chicken teriyaki, shrimp tempura, broiled salmon, deep-fried pork skewers and more served in an ingenious boat with a choice of sashimi or California roll. Also fun is shabu shabu, thinly sliced, select cut beef, assorted vegetables, shiitake mushrooms, tofu and Japanese noodles cooked at the table with two sauces for dipping. Desserts include banana tempura and Japanese ice cream in flavors like green tea, red bean and ginger. For those who like to drink their sweets, the “Over 21 Desserts” include Ozeki Nigori Sake and The Grasshopper's Kiss. Café Sushi in Troy is a sister establishment.
