Cheyne Walk Brasserie Restaurant Review:
It’s a familiar and successful story: a former Victorian pub is transformed into an upmarket, chic restaurant and salon bar upstairs where you should start with a drink, sampling the view over the river. The downstairs restaurant has a wooden floor, startlingly sky-blue leather banquettes running round the sides, crisp white linen and deep red leather chairs, which all goes down a treat with the locals who mostly favour the place. Cooking is equally in tune with the times, emphasizing fresh, seasonal ingredients simply cooked at the open-grill kitchen that dominates the room. Provence and the Mediterranean provide the inspiration for dishes like the charcuterie, burgundy snails, salads and grills such as duck breast, and if you really want the French experience, tripe sausage. Delightfully out of the way, the nearest underground station is about a 20-minute walk. Set lunch Tues.-Sun. 2 courses £19, 3 courses £23.
